A GREAT Journalist has passed — Daniel Hopsicker July 16, 1951-August 22, 2023 — R.I.P.

It is our sad duty to inform you that Daniel Hopsicker has passed. He left us around noon on August 22, 2023. May he R.I.P.

The world has seldom seen such courage, tenacity and humor all rolled up together. I have been honored to be able to call him my friend. We met during the wild hopeful early years of the Internet, on an email list called CIA-Drugs, as time progressed the list became more raucous, and “Bob” our moderator and host soon  became embroiled and it imploded. Both Daniel and I separately started a new CIA-Drugs list. We soon joined forces…

Daniel was a journalist, I was a spook-brat, whose father talked a bit. We put together a CIA-Drugs Symposium in June 2000, and we met face-to-face. Daniel talked about a book that he had with an agent in New York. After the conference he found out that New York wasn’t going to publish it, and made it be known. I told him: I’d been told we could make a book on our computers and that a friend of mine had made a book for his wife, so we should do that. Daniel came out and we made Barry and the ‘Boys’: the Mob and America’s Secret History. And I learn so much more about him…

I am going to miss him sooooo much. Daniel could tell a story like nobody else … and he had sooooo many of them. Daniel had tenacity like very few and the courage of a “bull in a china shop” – which he could be. But he was also one of the most sweetest and caring person I knew. That is what drove him – the connected got away while our prisons filled…

Daniel you will be missed BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!!!!!

Love,

Kris Millegan … and many more…

  1. I lived in Venice. Spoke with Daniel a couple of months ago about doing a podcast together. We spoke for about 45 minutes. Will definitely keep that special conversation with me forever. I know he was in a lot of pain towards the end. May he rest in peace.

  2. I really appreciated his legacy of work and newsletter Mad Cow Morning News. I bought Barry and the Boys (for a long time they were $220-250 on Amazon due to the pent up demand after publication). That dog-eared copy was lent out so many times and finally someone did not return it to me leaving a big hole in my bookcase as one of the most provocatively written yet well researched books of that era–long prior to the watered down Tom Cruise movie “American Made” based on his book. I was pleased that he sent me a handwritten personal note–one that I kept was with the Welcome to Terrorland book. It was personally researched around Venice, much of it by Daniel himself. I send deep condolences to those close to him. He influenced my life which quire directly led to marrying the most special person I have ever met after I left the US and my former establishment drone life behind me in the wake of his fine work and others.

  3. Daniel is one of my heroes,. I was trying for along time,. To get him to narrate his NSO group article (so I could video edit it),. How it ties “the firms” to drug running,. (It’s art,. Fine art) He told me he had a box,. Of vhs and stuff he was a lil afraid to upload and release,. That he would give me for editing,. But I was trying to explain to his BOOMER a** I don’t know how to vhs 📼 to iPhone/ iMovie,. 🫠

Anyways i would be interested in helping to promote his work,. It’s a shame it’s hard to find anything on YouTube & speaking of YouTube they will start deleting accounts that are inactive after like 2years or so,. So if you have keys to his YouTube,. I suggest posting something every once in a while,.

I knew Daniel was suffering for a long time now due to his sickness,. He had a really positive attitude about it tho,. I been meaning to call him for a few months,. But didn’t want to bother him,. Life is short,. Love is rare ,. Friendships are fleeting,. Trust in God/Allah,.
And tell the people you love, that you love them,.

Feel free to email me , if you can think of a use for me 🤗

  4. His works on Mohamed Atta and CIA in Florida will always be of primary importance in my works, and it was Hopsicker who was one of the very first 9/11 researchers i ever came across.

  5. Tom, Daniel told me about the first time you’d been to see him. You can’t know how much it meant to him. He kept saying, “Little Tommy Kane.” I guess Daniel was an impressive guy even in 5th grade, huh?

  6. O, sad day to see Daniel lose the fight with the grim reaper. I wished he had lived on to see what these fraught times will reap.

  7. Kris he was a friend of mine as well since the 5th grade. I sat with him for a bit last Friday before he left us. 😞
