Drug Addiction

In today’s society, there are many people who are unfortunately addicted to drugs.  Drug addiction, or drug abuse, can be defined as the repetitive and excessive use of drugs to create a sense of pleasure and to escape from reality, even though the person is suffering from destructive effects.  Common drugs that people are addicted to include illegal substances such as marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, and heroine.  Some people are also addicted to legal substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and inhalants such as gasoline and nail polish.   People who have a drug addiction tend to be overtaken by their drug of choice and often end up ruining relationships with friends and family, and also can end up loosing jobs and end up not be able to get through their daily functions.

People who have a drug addiction tend to possess certain symptoms.   Here are a list of symptoms that many people who have a drug addiction possess:

  1. The inability to have fun or a good time without being on drugs
  2. The need to always borrow money or to be out of money frequently
  3. Bad grades or failing out of school
  4. Frequent mood swings and manic behavior
  5. A decreased amount of care about grooming or personal hygiene
  6. The need to be alone or not hang out with friends
  7. A severe gain or loss of weight
  8. The need to always talk about drugs or to tell drug stories
  9. Dilated pupils
  10. An increased feeling of exhaustion

While many people addicted to drugs possess some or all of the traits above, other symptoms are common as well.  Drug addictions are very serious and should never be taken lightly.  It is important to talk to someone you suspect to be addicted to drugs because without help, drug addiction can be very harmful and even deadly.
